Delete your Roman Reads account
How to close your Roman Reads account and delete your data: in the app, on the website, or by email. You do not need the app to ask.
In short
- In the Roman Reads app: Profile, then Settings, then Close the account.
- On the website: sign in, open Settings, then Close the account.
- Or email info@romanreads.com from the address on your account, and we will close it for you.
- Closing the account deletes it straight away. Order records are kept, with your name, phone number and address removed.
This summary is here to be read quickly. The numbered sections below give the full steps, and say exactly what is deleted and what is kept.
-
1 Before you start
- If you want a copy of your data, download it first. In the app or on the website, open Settings, then Download my data.
- If you subscribe, there is no need to cancel first. Closing the account cancels the subscription straight away, so you are not charged again.
-
2 In the app
- Open the Roman Reads app and sign in.
- Tap Profile, at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Settings.
- Near the end of the list, tap Close the account.
- Type your account number where it asks. It is shown on the same screen, as Member no.
- Tap Close the account. The account is deleted straight away and you are signed out.
-
3 On the website
- Go to romanreads.com/login and sign in with the code we email you.
- Open Settings. You can also reach it from Your Account, then Profile, then the settings button.
- Near the end of the page, open Close the account.
- Type your account number where it asks. It is shown on the same page, as Member no.
- Press Close the account. The account is deleted straight away and you are signed out.
-
4 By email
If you cannot sign in, or would rather we did it, write to info@romanreads.com from the email address on your account, with the subject “Delete my account”.
We will reply to that address to confirm the request came from you, then close the account and tell you when it is done. We will answer within one month.
-
5 What is deleted
Closing the account deletes, straight away and for good:
- Your account: your email address, your name and your profile details.
- Your library, wishlist and waitlist, your reading and listening positions, and your bookmarks.
- Your conversations with the AI.
- Your access to digital copies and audiobooks, and your subscription, which is cancelled so it does not renew. Printed books you bought are yours to keep.
- Your Personal Voice, if you made one: the voice model held by Fish Audio, the consent recording we kept, and the audio of our books made in your voice.
- Books you added yourself in Your files: the files, the text taken from them, and the audio made from them, including audio in your own voice.
This cannot be undone.
-
6 What is kept, and for how long
- Orders: kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires, because a shop has to be able to account for what it sold. Your name, phone number, street, city and postcode are removed from them. What was bought, the price, the date and the country it went to remain, with nothing to link them to you.
- Payments: Stripe keeps its own record of each card payment, as the law requires of it.
- Emails: the letters we exchanged with you, for as long as they are useful if you write again. We send one last email confirming the account is closed.
- Backups: a backup of our database is kept for to be confirmed. Your account can remain in a backup until that backup expires. Backups are only used to restore the service after a failure.
- Server logs: a short rolling window, then discarded.
The Privacy Policy says more about each of these.
-
7 Deleting only part of it
You can delete some of your data and keep the account.
- Your voice: in the app, Profile, then Personal Voice, then Delete Voice. This deletes the voice everywhere, on the phone and on the website.
- A book you added: delete it in Your files. Its file, its text and its audio are deleted.
- Anything else: write to info@romanreads.com and say what you would like deleted.
